Welcome back to Friday Florals this week’s post is all about the power of scent, specifically lavender.
Although we specialize in plus size lingerie we also stock a few complimentary products that we love and swear by. This week we thought we’d share our secrets to preventing heat rash, staying cool, calm and collected during Summer and the secret to a good nights sleep. Guess what they all have in common? Lavender.
You either love or loathe lavender. It lifts the spirits and calms the body and if it repels some insects at the same time all the better. But in the heat of Summer when the heat is stifling how do you prevent heat rash? With lavender talcum powder. I’m ashamed to admit I did not know this until a few years ago and it’s embarrassingly simple.
Talcum powder absorbs moisture; moisture causes heat rash. Remove the moisture and you’ll prevent heat rash! Mind blown.
Everywhere from under your breasts to behind your knees, talcum powder will have you comfortable and sweat free all Summer long. Best of all the antibacterial and antifungal properties of lavender help as well. So how do you do this? Keep a small lavender talc in your purse when out and about. At only 100g it’s small enough to keep in a handbag or office draw. Throughout the day when you feel yourself getting a little hot and bothered simply excuse yourself, head to the ladies and dust a little talc behind your knees or anywhere else you need too. It also prevents chaffing so if you’d like to go stocking free you can. Just as long as you carry a small talc with you; you’re good to go.
The benefits of the dead sea have been written about for years. Rich in minerals they contain magnesium, calcium, potassium, iron and many more. These minerals stimulate cell regeneration and help relax and sooth tired muscles. Many people suffering from arthritis, magnesium deficiencies and general aches and pains say they feel the benefits of a sea salt bath for hours afterwards. We love our Lavender and Ylang Ylang Dead Sea salt mix for two reasons. It’s instantly calming and you can be assured you’ll have a good nights sleep after a soak, 2. The magnesium helps sooth your tired muscles after a long day.
Manufactured in the UK, it’s a heady mix so you can use it sparingly. All you need is 1-2 tablespoons added to your bathwater and you’ll be calm and relaxed in no time. I also like to leave the lid off the jar to get rid of any unpleasant bathroom odours.
Have you heard about layering scents? If you use multiple products throughout the day your fragrance will last longer (makes sense). Layering scents starts in the shower. By using a lightly scented soap you’ll have a base to build on throughout the day. As you can see, we love the Fleurique range. It’s Australian made and lightly scented so it’s not overpowering. It’s nasty free and incredibly moisturizing, locking in hydration and restoring your dry hands and nails. As it’s lightly scented it works with not against your chosen scent.
Finally, it would be remiss of us if we didn’t include a candle in the mix. We don’t want you sleeping with a burning candle; but candles really are a wonderful addition to your lifestyle. Our lavender jarcandle doesn’t smell overpoweringly like lavender but once lit a gentle lavender fragrance wafts through your home. Try burning a candle at night when you get home from work so you can start to unwind. Lighting a candle for an hour each night is part scent therapy, part routine. It’s a treat that feels lavish and indulgent but is remarkably affordable and makes the world of difference to your mood.
