Who doesn’t want strong, shiny, healthy hair? So here are some tips to take care of your hair and make it healthy and beautiful.
Use a Sateen Pillowcase
Cotton absorbs moisture. If you are using a cotton pillowcase, it will absorb the moisture from your skin and hair while you sleep. So, it is best to use a sateen pillowcase instead because it’s cooler and won’t make you sweat as much. Your hair won’t tangle and roughen up. It also makes a blowout last much longer.
Shampoo Every other day
Daily shampooing can be too much for your scalp. When you shampoo your scalp, it tends to overproduce oil, which results in making your hair feel greasy, and you want to rewash it. It is like a cycle, and once you break it, your grooming routine will get easier. It’s better to use shampoo every other day or once in two days.
For no-shampoo days, you can wet your hair, massage your scalp just like you would with shampoo. This way the scalp would break up the oils and let them move down the hair cuticle where they’re most required.
Be careful of the amount of shampoo and the way you apply it
A coin-sized blob of shampoo is ideal. But most use too much, which make the hair even more vulnerable to damage.
You should also care about the way you apply the shampoo on your hair. Never apply the shampoo directly onto the top of your head. The right way to use is to put the shampoo in your hands, rub your hand together, dab it over your head and hair and then work it in. Make sure to work it all over and not just put it on the roots or scalp.
Never Skip Conditioner
Condition your hair after every shampoo, especially if you have longer locks.
Use a conditioner with real moisturiser in it. It will work best if you apply it on the midsection of the hair to ends, and let it sit for a few minutes.
Brush your Hair Properly
The ideal way to brush your hair is to start from the root and work your way to the tips. If you do the opposite, you’re pushing your tangles into one big tangle and can lead to split ends which is irreparable.
Get Regular Haircuts
Your hair grows a half inch to one inch a month. So, a haircut every three or four months is sufficient. It would be best if you cut off at least a quarter of an inch regularly to remove the splits at the hair ends.
Eat a Healthy and Balanced Diet
Your hair requires the right nutrition to grow well and maintain itself. A diet full of fresh vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds ensures that your hair get the right nutrients. Stay away from processed and junk food as much as possible.
Hair is mainly made up of protein, so be sure to intake at least 45 grams of protein daily. Protein deficiency can make the hair weak, brittle and even cause hair loss. Use hair care products that have protein in it.
Zinc deficiency can cause hair loss. So, include nuts like Brazil nuts, walnuts, pecans, cashews, and almonds into your diet to prevent shedding.
Omega-3 fatty acids
To improve scalp health, include omega-3 fatty acids in your diet because it can stimulate your hair follicles and sebaceous glands. Flaxseed, yoghurt and fishes like salmon, sardines, and herring consist of omega-3 fatty acids.
Drink plenty of water
Make sure you are Internally and externally hydrated because that’s the key to well-balanced and healthy hair. Drink a minimum of 3 litres of water every day to ensure good hair health.
